A subset of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients is predisposed to angulated septum

چکیده
Background Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a complex genetic disease with marked morphofunctional heterogeneity. Some HCM patients develop obstructive symptoms later in life, long after cessation of hypertrophic progression. The mechanism underlying this phenomenon is poorly understood. It is known that aorto-septal angulation progresses with age. However, the relationship between age, septal angulation, and HCM subtype has not been explored. In this present study, we examined the relationship between age, aorto-septal angulation and subtypes of HCM.

DIFFUSE CORONARY ARTERIAL ECTASIA WITH HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY
A 40 year old male, a known case of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, was admitted for catheterization. At catheterization and angiography, septum was hypertrophied to about 5cm and diffuse coronary artery aneurysm was revealed. We found no previous report of coronary artery aneurysm in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
متن کاملApical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in a Case with Chest Pain and Family History of Sudden Cardiac Death: A Case Report
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common genetic cardiovascular disease, which is caused by a multitude of mutations in genes encoding proteins of the cardiac sarcomere (1). Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM) is an uncommon type of HCM. The sudden cardiac death is less likely to occur in the patients inflicted with AHCM (2). Herein, we presented the case of a 29-year-old man ...
متن کاملInvestigation of Polymorphisms in Non-Coding Region of Human Mitochondrial DNA in 31 Iranian Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Patients
The D-loop region is a hot spot for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) alterations, containing two hypervariable segments, HVS-I and HVS-II. In order to identify polymorphic sites and potential genetic background accounting for Hypertrophic CardioMyopathy (HCM) disease, the complete non-coding region of mtDNA from 31 unrelated HCM patients and 45 normal controls were sequenced. The sequences were aligne...
متن کاملAnalysis of transmural trend of myocardial integrated ultrasound backscatter for differentiation of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and ventricular hypertrophy due to hypertension.
OBJECTIVES This study was undertaken to differentiate hypertrophic cardiomyopathy from hypertensive hypertrophy using a newly developed M-mode format integrated backscatter imaging system capable of calibrating myocardial integrated backscatter with the power of Doppler signals from the blood. BACKGROUND Myocardial integrated ultrasound backscatter changes in patients with hypertrophic cardio...
متن کاملQuantitative analysis of cardiac muscle cell disorganization in the ventricular septum. Comparison of fetuses and infants with and without congenital heart disease and patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The presence of numerous abnormally arranged cardiac muscle cells in the ventricular septum has been considered a characteristic anatomic feature of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. However, it has been suggested that the ventricular septum of infants with certain congenital cardiac diseases (such as aortic or pulmonic valve atresia) contains disorganized cardiac muscle cells similar to those in pa...
